KCRC Viaduct Construction from Kam Tin to Tin Shui Wai

The project involved the construction of an approximately 5.5 Km twin track railway viaduct from Kam Tin to Tin Shui Wai.

Environmental Concern

The footprint of the construction site covered many public areas in Kam Tin, Yuen Long town, and Tin Shui Wai. Surface runoff and site effluents arising from construction activities including site clearance, soil excavation for site formation, bored piling, pile caps construction, and railway viaduct segment erection were major concerns of the residents.

Measures Adopted

Cover - The excavated soil piles were covered to prevent contamination of surface runoff.

Collection & Treatment Wastewater - De-silting facilities were installed to treat surface runoff and other site effluents; and channels were constructed around the site to collect and convey surface runoff to the de-silting facilities.

Observations & Achievements

Through the installation of additional facilities to enhance collection and treatment of the respective site effluents, the quality of effluent discharge was greatly improved.
