“LOVE•NATURE” Wood Sculpture Design Competition

Objective

To promote leave no trace at mountain and sea by taking your litter home.

Specifications of Entries

  1. All entries submitted must be original and have never been published.
  2. Free expression in design is encouraged, which must be relevant to the theme and include designated bilingual slogans in both Chinese AND English ("自己垃圾自己帶走" and "Take Your Litter Home").
  3. Participants are welcome to put additional slogans in the design.
  4. The design needs to be visually compatible with the natural environment.
  5. For traditional drawing, the participant must draw on a white A4 paper with the addition of scale bar for reference, and submit a scanned copy or photo of the drawing.
  6. For digital drawing, the file must be in JPEG, PNG or PDF format, with the addition of scale bar for reference.
  7. Each entry shall be submitted with a brief description of the idea of the entry and the message to get across in no more than 100 words in Chinese or English.
  8. Participant only has to submit the 2D design of the front view. The side/rear view and other details of the 3D design will be worked out together with the contractor/woodworker later as appropriate for the selected entry.
  9. The suggested size of the wood sculpture should be within 60cm (L) x 60cm (H) x 30cm (W).

Assessment and Judging Criteria

The assessment panel comprises representatives from the Environment Bureau, the Environmental Protection Department and the Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department. Assessment will be made according to the following criteria:

  1. Relevance to the themes (35%)
  2. Aesthetics (25%)
  3. Creativity (20%)
  4. Impact (20%)

Each winner will also be awarded:

A wood sculpture may be produced based on the Champion entry and placed in Country Park or other suitable place to promote “Leave No Trace at Mountain and Sea”!*

* Display location and duration are to be determined by the EPD.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all Hong Kong residents aged 11 or above.

Submission of Entries

Participants should submit their entries by email to the EPD (LNT2022@epd.gov.hk) as attachment using subject of “Submission of Sculpture Design”, together with the following information.

Points to Note

  1. Each participant may submit up to three entries.
  2. Participants will not be notified individually upon receipt of entries.
  3. The Organiser has the right to request the winners to provide identification proof for verification. Prizes will only be awarded upon verification of identity.
  4. Submitted entries shall not involve contents that are illegal, obscene, indecent, defamatory, threatening, pornographic, harassing, inducing a person to hatred or anxiety, offensive to a certain race or ethnic group, discriminatory, advocating acts deemed as criminal behaviours, leading to civil or criminal liability, violating any laws or rules, or improper information.
  5. When making the entries public, the Organiser has the right to publish the name of a participant.
  6. Participants shall ensure that their entries do not infringe the intellectual property rights of any person.
  7. Participants shall agree to indemnify the Organiser against any claims, losses, additional costs incurred, damages, liabilities and/or expenses in respect of their entries arising out of their breach of any of the terms.
  8. The Organiser reserves the right to change and interpret the rules of this competition without prior notice.
  9. The Organiser reserves the right to amend or fine-tune the awarded design and/or the final scale because of technical, safety, environmental constraints or other reasonable causes.
  10. The Organiser’s decisions on the competition results are final and binding on the participants.
  11. The Organizer will contact all winners individually for prize collection arrangement. Each participant is eligible to win one prize only.
