Problem
Growing wasteloads and low waste recovery rate
Relevant Env. Control Under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, Cap. 354, it is prohibited to dump waste in public places or on Government land, or on private premises without the consent of the owner or occupier.
Practical Solutions
Provide suitable waste separation facilities such as containers and shelves in refuse rooms for collection of recyclables from each building floor. You may refer to the <Guidebook on Source Separation of Waste in Residential Buildings> which advises you on the feasible waste separation modes that can be practiced in different possible locations on each building floor.

Provide 3 coloured waste separation bins on the ground floor lobby or clubhouse for collecting waste paper (e.g. newspaper, scrap paper), plastics (e.g. plastic bottles, shopping bags, CDs), metals (e.g. aluminium cans, biscuit tins, clean food cans), and possibly other specific types of recyclables, such as rechargeable batteries, printer cartidges, etc.

Maintain the waste separation facilities in a clean and working condition.
Handle & store recycling material in a proper way, for example, using plastic bottle compactor to reduce storage space.

Organise periodic programmes for the collection of other specific types of recyclables such as old clothing, computers, electrical and electronic appliances, rechargeable batteries, etc. Outlets of these items can be found here .
Inform residents of waste separation arrangements including the location of waste separation facilities on each floor, types of recyclables to be recovered, etc. through notices, posters and leaflets.

Organize environmental education and publicity activities, e.g. waste-to-gift exchange programme and inter-tower recycling competition, to increase residents' environmental awareness and participation in waste separation.
