The Eco Expo Asia - International Trade Fair on Environmental Protection 2006 was held at the AsiaWorld-Expo next to the Hong Kong International Airport on 27-30 October 2006.  It was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd.

The Expo was divided into three areas: Green World, Green Enterprise and Green Living, in which environmental systems and technologies, environmentally products for business operations, as well as eco-friendly consumer products and services were shown.  It also included a 3-day conference to cover various environmental topics such as air, water, wastewater, solid waste, recycling, alternative energy and green living.  There were also a Public Day on 29 October 2006 for some public interested educational topics.

The Expo was officially opened on 27 October 2006, and Ms. Anissa Wong, our new Permanent Secretary for Environment, Transport and Works / Director of Environmental Protection Department was the officiating guest for the joint opening ceremony.  In the Expo, EPD also manned a booth to show the business trade and the public the current works and future plans for developing a sustainable environment.  Display information covered a wide range of topics, viz, air pollution control, waste reduction, Harbour Area Treatment Scheme, water pollution model for the waters in both Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta, 3-D virtual reality public engagement tool on environmental impact assessment, 3-D noise mapping and virtual reality public engagement tools on noise, and green living. 

Special emphasis was placed on the EcoPark which is scheduled for leasing by end 2006, and the Compliance Assistance Centre (CAC) which was commissioned on 20 September 2006.  The EcoPark is a key element of Hong Kong's waste management strategy to promote the local recycling and environmental industry.  It will provide long term land use with essential infrastructures to encourage the industry to invest in value-added recycling processes.  The CAC is an office to provide enhanced assistance to the business trades in achieving environmental compliance, pollution prevention and environmental management. 

Besides, EPD conducted seminars on "Strategies for Air Pollution Control in Hong Kong" and "Green Living".  Snapshots of EPD's participation in the Expo can be seen in the attached photographs.
