Proposed sewerage works at Mang Kung Uk approved

The Chief Executive in Council has authorised the construction of about 1 000 metres of sewers along Mang Kung Uk Road to Wo Tong Kong, Sai Kung.

A spokesman for the Environmental Protection Department said today (October 25): "As part of the Rural Planning and Improvement Strategy Programme, the sewerage scheme will improve the sanitary condition and the environment of the Mang Kung Uk area.

"It will also help improve the water quality of Port Shelter."

Details of the works were published in the Government Gazette on October 19 and 26, 2001, while the approval for the modified scheme was gazetted today.

Modifications were made to revise the limit of the works area of the sewerage scheme following a revision of the land resumption proposal for a road scheme to improve the access roads at Mang Kung Uk.

The sewerage works are scheduled to commence in September 2003 and will take about 15 months to complete.

The works will be carried out in conjunction with the road scheme which has also been authorised with modifications by the Chief Executive in Council.

End/Friday, October 25, 2002
