Forty-one pollution convictions in October

Forty-one convictions were recorded last month (October) for breaches of anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.

Nineteen of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, nineteen under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, two under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance, and one under the Ozone Layer Protection Ordinance.

The heaviest fine in October was $50,000, assessed against a company which discharged waste/polluting matter into the water control zone.
