Twenty-eight pollution convictions in September

Twenty-eight convictions were recorded last month (September) for breaches of anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.

Twelve of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, nine under the Waste Disposal Ordinance. There are five cases under the Noise Control Ordinance and two under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.

The heaviest fine in September was $110,000, assessed against an engineering company which used powered mechanical equipment without valid construction noise permit.
