Twenty EPD convictions in July

Twenty convictions were recorded last month (July) for breaches of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.

Six of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, one under the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance, two under the Noise Control Ordinance, one under the Ozone Layer Protection Ordinance, nine under the Waste Disposal Ordinance and one under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.

The heaviest fine in July was $20,000, assessed against a company that constructed or operated a designated project without an environmental permit.
